The Benefits of Exfoliation

Debris such as sweat, dirt, environmental pollutants, makeup residue, etc. all accumulate on the surface of your skin causing buildup that clogs pores. Without regular cleansing and exfoliation, this accumulation of debris, along with dead cells on the skin surface, results in skin having a rough texture and a dull or discolored complexion. This also can cause skin to overproduce oil to compensate for a lack of proper hydration, which further clogs pores and leads to a greater risk of break outs.

The process if exfoliating the skin involves sloughing away that buildup from the surface, providing a deep cleanse, dislodging the buildup from pores while smoothing and refining skin’s texture. Regular exfoliation allows for a more effective absorption of skin care products, such as moisturizers, serums and even SPF. When skin is not regularly exfoliated and continues to have buildup, skincare products do not work as effectively as they cannot penetrate the skin completely. Exfoliating creates a smooth, clean canvas for your skin care products to seep deep into skin and provide their full benefits.

Exfoliation breaks down dry, dead skin and evens out skin tone giving it a soft, smooth texture. In removing these dead surface cells through regular exfoliation, you are making way for healthy skin and promoting a beautiful radiant glow. Exfoliation does not only benefit the surface of your skin, but increases circulation deep in the epidermis. Skin with poor circulation looks dull and damaged, because it is. It is deprived of the oxygen and nutrients that assist in waste removal from skin cells. Everything from dullness, acne, dark circles, and winkles can be attributed to week blood circulation. Regular exfoliation helps to stimulate blood flow, nourishing skin with oxygen and nutrients leaving a fresh radiant glow.

Improved blood flow also means improved collagen production, which is vital for skin to stay young, healthy, and vibrant. Collagen is responsible for keeping your skin firm, supple and elastic. As we age, the natural production of collagen declines, causing wrinkles, discoloration, and other signs of aging. Regular exfoliation jumpstarts collagen synthesis. It is a gentle process, but tricks skin into thinking it is injured, which in turn results in the healing process of new collagen fiber generation. As collagen is increased, skin’s texture and integrity are improved and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is decreased.

Scrub off that dead, dry skin and debris while adding hydration, nourishment and encouraging skin regeneration with a delightful natural scrub. Our scrubs are carefully formulated with essential vitamins and minerals to gently exfoliate and restore the vitality of your skin.

A normal exfoliation routine is 2-3 times per week. Use on hands, body, face, and feet to keep skin soft, smooth, and healthy.  We use a variety of carrier and essential oils added to each unique blend of one or more of the following exfoliants.

Pure Cane sugar – Provides gentle effective exfoliation to slough off cells and make way for healthy, glowing skin. Cane sugar is a natural anti-oxidant and is a source of glycolic acid, which encourages cell turnover and collagen production, leaving behind smoother younger looking skin.

Brown sugar - A natural exfoliate that helps to moisturize and even skin tone. Brown sugar loosens skin cells while promoting cell growth and is also a natural source of glycolic acid.

Epsom salt - Known for its amazing therapeutic qualities, Epsom salt cleanses pores by flushing out toxins and detoxifies skin. It is made up of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen which purifies skin while anti-inflammatory properties prevent irritation as it works to slough away dry patches, reveling a healthy complexion.

Dead sea salt - The high salt content is super rich in minerals including magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, potassium, and zinc, which are easily absorbed by the skin. These minerals in dead sea salt cleanse and soothe damaged skin, while promoting cell renewal and healing of skin tissues.
